Updated: Xcel pruning in Niwot: May – July

The following is an updated announcement posted on behalf of Xcel Energy.

Note to Xcel Energy customers in Niwot,

Xcel Energy is dedicated to providing you with safe, reliable electricity while complying with state and federal regulations. We do this by taking a proactive approach to maintaining our electric distribution lines in the communities we serve, which bring our customers the power they value.

One of the main ways we do this is to prevent power outages and downed lines caused by trees and tree branches by having a regular maintenance schedule to prune and/or remove trees. In keeping with this schedule, in early May we will have crews from our contractor, Wright Tree Service, in your area pruning and removing trees around our power lines throughout Niwot. We expect this work to last several weeks, most likely ending near the end of June or early July.

If you have electric power lines running through your property, you will likely be impacted by this work. We ask that, if your backyard gate is locked, please leave it unlocked so our crews can easily access the electric lines in your yard. Additionally, if you have a pet, please leave it indoors, but feel free to call the number below so we can coordinate with you.

Per our vegetation management guidelines, brush and debris will be hauled off site, while wood will be left on site in manageable lengths. If trees are removed, the stump will not be ground down, but will be treated with an EPA-registered herbicide to prevent re-sprouting.
