Niwot Highway 119 Underpass Survey
The Niwot Community Association (NCA), in conjunction with the Niwot Local Improvement District (LID), is requesting input from the community on options for a possible underpass from the new Niwot Transit Center & Park-n-Ride to downtown Niwot.
We need your input to help Boulder County Planners
and Commissioners make decisions that will impact Niwot.
Part of the CO 119 Safety, Mobility, and Bikeway Project, the proposed underpass addition to the project has been through many revisions and the leading two options are detailed below. Funding for either option has NOT been secured yet.
Option 3a
Option 3a features:
- Enters Niwot at Second Avenue
- Underpass for Highway 119
- Highway underpass 80′
- 720′ from transit center, 1,100′ total to Niwot
- Likely less expensive than other options
- Surface crossing of the railroad tracks at Second Ave
- Pedestrian, bike, automobile, and rail interaction at intersection
- Will likely require safety fencing at crossing
- Provides convenient bike access to the new bikeway project path
- Additional safety fencing will likely be required along the walkway next to the rail road tracks
Option 4
Option 4 features:
- Enters Niwot at Whistle Stop Park / First Avenue
- Underpasses for both Highway 119 and the railroad tracks:
- Highway underpass 112′

- Likely more expensive than other options
- Provides convenient bike access to the new bikeway project path
- Pathway to the underpass easily visible from transit center & Park-n-Ride
- No safety fences would be required
